If knowing is half the battle, then knowing how to use that knowledge is the other half. Because of the vast differences in the different landing sites, we’re going to break down each landing site, including the difficulty that it correlates with and more.

Rimworld Site

First up is the Temperate Forest. This is the easiest landing site available, and should be your choice if you’re looking to make your time in Rimworld more of a relaxing experience. Temperate forests offer up plenty of farmland, tons of wood, and no “extreme” temperatures to deal with. This also means it is one of the less exciting biomes to start in, but you should definitely start here when first getting used to the game.

The second biome type is the Ice Sheet. This frozen wasteland is one part of the extreme difficulty line-up which is featured in the game. Here players will have to deal with extremely cold temperatures and frozen farmlands, which will require more work to get up and running. If you’re looking for a heavy challenge, you can’t go wrong starting in an Ice sheet biome.

Rimworld Multiplayer

Perhaps the most challenging biome, the Extreme Desert is a wasteland of sand and heat. This biome is extremely challenging, and offers the challenge of dealing with very little farmland and scorching heat. Of course, you’ll also have to deal with the different growing seasons of the game, so it’s important to take all of that into account before starting up a game on a harder biome.

Knowing Which to Choose

Now that you know the big differences between the biomes, it’s time to choose the right one for you. This can be accomplished by looking at what you want out of the game. If you are looking for an excessively challenging experience, then be sure to hit up the Extreme Desert or Ice Sheet biome. If you’re just looking for a relaxing colony sim, then the Temperate forest is what you where you’ll want to start out.

Once you’ve decided the kind of challenge you’re looking for, it’s time to start up your game and get your characters selected. Remember that each biome offers very different challenges, some more extreme than others, and that players looking for a far more relaxed experience with the game should stick to the Temperate forest biome. We’d also suggest that new players start off in the Temperate forest biome, as it will make learning the game’s crafting and micromanagement systems a lot easier.
